A religion that developed in Haiti in the 16th century. It formed as a blend of several African religious traditions (e.g. Vodun practiced in Ghana, Benin and Nigeria) and Roman Catholicism. It teaches the existence of a supreme creator god named Bondye, Gran Maître or Gran mati and spirits known as lwa.
